There have been countless reworkings of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, from the comical to the forgettable. The latest twist from 20th Century Fox puts the focus squarely on the relationship between Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein and his assistant Igor.
In Victor Frankenstein, James McAvoy portrays the titular doctor while Daniel Radcliffe takes the role of his straight-backed companion. Written by Max Landis (Chronicle) and directed by Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Sleven, BBC’s Sherlock), the film looks to take a tone similar to the Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law Sherlock Holmes films, with action and comedy mixed into the more serious drama and, in this case, horror moments. At least, that’s the impression from the first trailer, which you can watch now below.
Victor Frankenstein, also starring Jessica Brown Findlay and Andrew Scott, is due in theaters November 25th. Read the official synopsis below.
Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Radcliffe) share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. But Victor’s experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences. Only Igor can bring his friend back from the brink of madness and save him from his monstrous creation.
